Meters for the Nuclear Power Industry

A large Energy Company in Missouri experienced a failure of a 16" insert style venturi meter after 30 years of service in a condensate flow application. The failure occurred at a Nuclear Power Plant and required immediate replacement.

Venturi meters are chosen for these applications because of their reliability and long life, so after 30 years of reliable service, a failure was unexpected.

Materials of construction were suspected to be the cause of the failure and a new approach was required. Working through the night, Wyatt Engineering supplied the power plant the next day, with an all Stainless Steel replacement meter, to the exact performance specifications of the original one.

Based on this exceptional customer service and technical expertise, Wyatt Engineering has been selected to replace all similar meters at the various power plants.

Eccentric Venturi

Oil & Gas producers as well as PetroChemical processes worldwide are increasingly needing to accurately and reliably measure wet gas flows. Wyatt Engineering has designed a meter specifically for this critical application.

With an accuracy of 0.5% and extremely low head loss, the Wyatt-EV shown below offers the proven reliability of the venturi meter with an innovative approach to wet gas measurement. The Eccentric design allows condensates to pass freely through the meter without impacting the gas measurement.

As proven by numerous installations, the Wyatt-EV is also the ideal meter for measuring slurries and other multi-phase flows. Solids that fall out of solution can pass freely through the meter, and with sealed diaphragm pressure sensation, plugged taps are no longer of concern.

Pressure Equipment Directive (P.E.D.)

We are proud to announce that after an extremely rigorous process we have received our Pressure Equipment Directive Certificate 97/23/EC for our flow products. The certificate is for Insert and Full-Form Venturi flow meters, both BVT and PMT designs. Also covered are our Classical Venturi meters, Flow Nozzles, and Orifice Plates.

Record Delivery Time

The CFE Cerro Preito geothermal energy power plant, Baja, Mexico, needed four 34" (850mm) full pressure vessel Venturi meters to upgrade its facilities, replacing its old orifice plates.

Venturis were selected to replace the orifice plates because of their improved accuracy ( by a factor of 10), and significantly reduced unrecoverable energy (only 6.5% of differential vs. 75% ).

The only problem was that the meters had to be on-site for a very narrow window of opportunity to install them. Wyatt Engineering was selected to provide these meters based on our ability to deliver performance substantiated meters, on-time, at a competitive price. Wyatt Engineering came through for CFE, designing, fabricating, and delivering all four meters in less than 5 weeks.
